Remember My Baby was created to help bring comfort to grieving parents following the loss of their baby before during or shortly after birth. Our Volunteer Photographers give up their time and use their skill to create images which parents can treasure. However, sometimes their workload is such that it’s not always possible to both take the session and to follow through to deliver completed images within the timescale. In addition, there may be occasions where extra expertise is required to retouch more challenging images, where a baby has been born in a poor condition. This is where Digital Retouchers (DRs) come in.
You may not feel that you wish to take a session as a Volunteer Photographer, and becoming a DR is another valuable way of contributing your skills to help bereaved families.
Due to the nature of our volunteer work all RMB Volunteer Photographers/DRs must be 18 years old and over.
You will need to submit five examples of your retouching work in this application. Please prepare them in advance, as you will not be able to save and return to your application.
Prior to uploading of images: Resize your images to 900 pixels on the longest side and save as a JPEG to quality 7 or 8. Please include before and after images from separate and distinct sessions/lighting conditions. Each image must be of a different person.
Once you apply, you will be sent a series of images to be retouched. These images range from basic retouching, to much more difficult images involving bruising, skin discolouration, etc. Submit these images back to us for review and scoring.
The RMB Membership Application Team (MAT) consists of experienced Digital Retouchers who will score your application.
All DR applications will be reviewed on the following criteria:
- Advanced ability to repair skin flaws (torn skin, blistering, bruising, discolouration etc).
- Black and White conversion skills (visually appealing with good contrast range with appropriate mid-tones).
- Requirements: Advanced Photoshop ability. Other retouching programs may be used, but Photoshop is mandatory for the advanced level of retouching often needed for our services.
The application process can take up to four weeks depending on the current volume (although it is sometimes longer during the busy Trade Show season). Applicants who get declined are always more than welcome to re-apply at a later date, after their skills have improved.
If your assessment application is successful you will be invited to become a member of RMB and will be required to confirm that you agree to the terms and conditions detailed in the Volunteer Services Agreement (VSA) and Code of Conduct (CoC) and pay the annual membership fee of £5.00.
