About Us.

'Remember My Baby' (RMB) is a UK based registered charity which offers a free gift of baby remembrance photography to all UK parents experiencing the loss of their baby before, during or shortly after birth.

Our Mission.

Our goal is to offer a service of baby remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of their baby in every hospital and birth centre across the UK.

Description.

When a family loses a lifetime’s potential for capturing milestones as their child grows, we will capture a precious baby or babies with their parents, siblings and extended family for free. Each family will receive a ‘free gift’ of high resolution digital images with a copyright licence to print for their own personal, non commercial use.

We always have an ongoing recruitment drive for professional photographers and NHS Trusts. If you are a skilled or professional photographer who is interested in applying to volunteer for us, please click here to find out more
information about becoming a Remember My Baby Photographer.

Alternatively, if you are an NHS Trust and you would like to know more about our service and how to introduce the service into your maternity hospital or birth centre please email us via:

Volunteer As A Photographer Ways To Volunteer

Board of  Trustees

Cheryl Johnson BEM ~ Chair & MAT Co-ordinator

Cheryl Johnson is a wife, mother to two grown sons, and a photographer who specialises in family photography in Essex.

She has also been awarded the honour of the British Empire Medal (BEM) in recognition of the impact and achievements of the charity that she helped to co-found in August 2014.

Born in East London, she first used the camera to document life growing up in the 70s in and around Upton Park, which was also once the home of her beloved football team.

Never one to resist change she has settled into WHU’s new home at the London Stadium.  She also loves to travel with her husband and they have travelled extensively with just Australia and Antarctica on their list of continents to explore.

A passionate photographer for over forty years, she has been a business owner for the past fourteen.

Cheryl’s first experience of a family’s devastation was when a friend had a stillborn baby on Christmas Day 1989. All they had to remember their son was one black and white Polaroid picture. They had it enlarged and even though the quality was extremely poor, framed it is proudly displayed along with other family members’ photos. This stayed with Cheryl for many years until in 2007 she first became involved with remembrance photography. “This is what I was meant to do,” says Cheryl.

Cheryl is committed to Remember My Baby and its aims. She is passionate about breaking the silence around baby loss as RMB’s gift of remembrance photography continues to develop in the UK.

Nicky Heppenstall ~ Vice Chair

Nicky is married to an engineer, Mark, and they live in Derbyshire. They have two children, Oliver who is an undergraduate in Leicester, and Jodie who attends a nearby senior school. Their stillborn daughter Kim remains part of the family, and is the reason for Nicky’s evident passion for Remembrance Photography.

A keen photographer since her teens, Nicky decided to turn professional after undertaking training with studio lighting, and being awarded a Distinction from the Royal Photographic Society in 2010.

After 8 successful years working part-time, Nicky has now retired, but will never give up taking photographs.

Nicky has attended a workshop with Chicago bereavement photographer Todd Hochberg, along with the bereavement midwife from her local unit, and subsequently delivered training to small groups of midwives to improve their confidence with cameras on the ward.

She has had previous experience volunteering for national charities at a local level, mainly with regard to bereavement support following the loss of a baby, and is determined to see Remembrance Photography offered as a choice to parents as widely as possible in the UK.

Michele Selvey ~ Membership Secretary & Web Administrator

Michele lives in South Staffordshire and is married with 4 grown up children. She is also a grandmother to 7 beautiful grandchildren.

She experienced a pregnancy loss herself in 1989. It is because of her own personal experience of baby loss that she is so passionate about supporting and promoting the RMB organisation’s services so as to ensure that families in the UK experiencing a baby loss, have access to this much needed baby remembrance photography service.

She has extensive experience of working and supporting pregnant women and their families since 1993 as a Maternity Health Care Assistant, student Midwife and Doula as well as supporting parents experiencing a baby loss in her capacity as a Bereavement Doula.

Michele has been a photographer since 2011 and is passionate about birth, newborn and lifestyle photography. Over the many years, she has undertaken training in studio lighting and natural lighting as well as training with many well known award winning newborn photographers such as Sandy Puc, Robin Long, Tracy Willis, Maddy Rogers, Shellie Wall and Elli Cassidy, Gary Hill , Cass Davies, Katrina Parry and Karen Pfeiffer.

Michele also has over 30 years experience volunteering for local and national charities and other organisations. Her volunteer positions have included roles such as Membership Secretary, Chairperson, Regional Representative, Treasurer and Website Administrator.

Ruth Trotter ~ MAT Co-ordinator

A mother of 3 boys, Ruth has been working in the photography industry for over 10 years now.  When she had her last son Finlay in 2003, he was a bit of a whirlwind and at her 12 week scan she was 20 weeks. then born he was born at 33 weeks.

After just a few weeks in hospital she was allowed home with a very healthy baby, however she was very aware that others were not as lucky.

She started a trial with Ninewells back in May 2013 to provide bereavement photography to families.  Whilst working on the trial she was in contact with 7 other ladies from all over UK who all had the same vision of setting a charity up.

Along with working as a full-time photographer Ruth also photographs for RMB and helps train midwives and medical staff regarding RMB.

Alison Bryan ~ Treasurer

Alison became involved with RMB after becoming friends with co-founder Cheryl Johnson.

She is an experienced finance professional – she qualified as an AAT member in 1993 with distinction.

Alison began her financial career in the City of London in 1989 where she began her training in accountancy. Many years in the City followed, performing management accounts for large banks such as Mizuho, Banca Intesa and Deutsche Bank.

After starting a family, Alison left the City and refreshed her skills, by qualifying with the IAB with distinction and now runs a successful small business offering bookkeeping services to local businesses. She entered into school finance and obtained a whole new set of accounting skills. Alison is proficient in all the current accounting packages on the market, and she loves IT of all kinds.

She loves to problem solve with numbers which means she spots patterns in people’s finances. She is a highly experienced bookkeeper who loves to take on a challenge.

When not looking at numbers, Alison likes to spend time with her family and visit the theatre or European Cities.

Kim Smith

Kim lives on The Wirral with her partner Keith and their three children Megan, Scarlet and Harrison. She’s run her own photography business since 2014 and first became interested in bereavement photography after having two baby losses of her own before her youngest child was born.

She joined RMB when they first started in August 2014 and has provided many families with images of their babies. She is also a Regional Coordinator for RMB too.

Kim is very passionate about helping families who have suffered bereavement and truly believes that photographs play a big part in the healing process.
